The Supreme Court in Montana legalized assisted suicide in a narrow 4 - 3 decision that was released on December 31. This is not an end to the debate in Montana. For more information go to:http://alexschadenberg.blogspot.com/2010/01/washington-state-doctors-wont-rush-into.html.
The 2009 Netherlands euthanasia statistics were released last week. They showed that the number of Euthanasia deaths in the Netherlands rose by about 200 deaths, but the article explained that the numbers are not complete because only 80% of the euthanasia deaths in the Netherlands are reported. I also pointed out that the total numbers are higher because assisted suicides and deaths without explicit request and euthanasia by dehydration are not counted in the official statistics. Wye Hale-Rowe, one of the four leaders of the Final Exit Network that was charged with manslaughter has agreed to testify against the other 3 defendants and has pled guilty to facilitation to commit manslaughter. It is interesting that when the charges against the four leaders of the Final Exit Network were first made, the media covered the issue, but now that one of the members has pled guilty and is willing to testify against the others, there is simply media silence.
